Limited by
"La Alameda Principal" and "El Paseo de España" that runs parallel to the Wharf
of Guadiaro, the park extends from the Seat of "General Torrijos", with its
"Genovesa" source, to "La Plaza de la Marina". It consists of three strolls of
800 meters in length and ten of width one in North side and two in the South
band of the great central stroll for vehicles, of 25 meters wide and the same
axis of "La Alameda" avenue, of which it is continuation. The total surface is
of more than 30,000 square meters, if they are united "La Rosaleda" surrounded
by orange-trees and cypresses, next to the Municipal Palace and the calls
Gardens of "Puerta Oscura".
The Park has characterized
by a series of singularities as far as its design and configuration:
- One is a stroll more with
gardens to both sides than of a park, because few landscaped zones in
comparison with the space occupied by the central road and the peatonales
steps are destined.
- The basic design is the
one of a Mediterranean garden of moderately Renaissance character and equally
baroque layouts.
- It is an opened park,
which it difference radically of most of the parks public. Comfortable
accessibility, but difficulties in its use and conservation.
- The local climate
practically is recognized like optimal throughout the year. Alternating
functional alignments to the times of the year, the passage of the sun during
the winter and a cover during the rest of the year.
- Cover: function to give
to shade and coolness. The selection of shade bananas and the later selection
of other leafy species are sample of it.
- Diversity.
- Accessory elements. It
lodges an interesting iconográphic collection of diverse
styles.
The closing of the Park
would suppose the conquest of extraordinary a public space and an increase of
the planted surface quite significant. In the Park units like the Encephalartus
Laurencianus can be found, that is as opposed to the corner of the building of
the Customs. This plant was given by the own Marquess of Larios. The isolated
units abound much, or in small groups of Cycas revoluta and three or cuatros
ones of Dracena Draco or Drago of the Canary Islands, with rigid and sharp
leaves and reddish fruits in hanging clusters. It also appears the Pinus
Canariensis, robust Grevillea, plants of the South hemisphere, concretely of
Australia, whose vulgar name is Fire Tree.
Several
magnificent units of Pandanus candelabrum can be admired, tree of the marshy
zones of suroriental Africa, with powerful roots, around the great source worked
in Genoa, by order of the Emperor Carlos V, after to be catched and to be
rescued of the pirates and who were transferred by real aim to Malaga Surrounded
by cypresses of Mexico or Virginia, known as the " at night sad Tree " being
support of a group of saved horsemen and Hernán Cortés of a slaughter during the
conquest of Mexico.
We continued emphasizing
species like Callitris quadrivalvis, exclusive right of North Africa, Chorisias,
trees of the South of Brazil and the North of Uruguay, known like drunk wood by
its peculiarity when swelling itself. Thanks to the Larios and other famous
families of Malaga, the Park went populating with a rich collection and
selection of originating plants, in its majority, of tropical and subtropical
countries.
The great
pendulata Ficus, the palm of hemp, coming from China or the unique Cameropo
humilis in Europe. Original species of Asia and the tropical Australian
Continent, the group of palms Archontophoenix Cuninghamin of Australia, with his
slender figure ringed by the scars of the generous leaves; cedars of the
Lebanon; araucarias of austral America; yucas, cicas, elobeas that alternate
with junipers and tuyas Japanese. The grouping of Palms of California, the
groups of Strelitzia augusta... of all this is given off that plants coming from
all the continents exist. |
